Influenza B

‘I pulled back the shower curtain in shock. Her eyes were sunken in, her lips blue. ‘Your daughter will likely pass.’ I sat with my head in my hands. ‘Why won’t anyone look at me?!’: Girl survives flu after 93-day battle in hospital, ‘Her health will never be the same’

“I called my husband. ‘There’s no time. Get home quickly.’ The doctor informed us, ‘If Madi doesn’t respond, we will have to intubate her.’ I just stood there in shock. ‘I don’t understand. She only has pneumonia.’ Something else was going on with her body. It all started with fever, body aches, and a cough.”

‘My OB came back in with a flu swab. I couldn’t hold our beautiful, new daughter. Tears immediately filled my eyes.’: Mom recalls childbirth as Influenza patient pre-pandemic, ‘Hindsight is 20/20’

“10 minutes after childbirth, I began shaking. My temperature skyrocketed. It was recommended we remove our precious, new baby from my care, and into theirs. I handed her over. We weren’t allowed visitors. My husband could only visit me with protective gear. But hindsight is 20/20.”

‘Her eyes looked up at me in panic. ‘Mommy, it’s blood.’ We were just in the ER and everything said she was fine. My stomach about hit the floor.’: Family says goodbye to their ‘forever Valentine’ after battle with flu

“Around 6 a.m., I heard her crying by my bed. ‘Mommy, my head hurts, my throat hurts, and my chest hurts really bad.’ This child never cried. She was breathing weird and for a bit, I thought she was being dramatic. Then in her weak, sweet, little voice, she asked, ‘Mommy, am I going to die?’ Something wasn’t sitting right. Every few seconds, she would say, ‘Mommy’ or ‘Hello,’ just so I knew she was doing okay.”
