10 Important Lessons I Hope To Teach My Daughter

More Stories like:

Before my daughter came along, I was strictly a ‘boy mom.’ I was content playing catch, learning about bugs, and watching monster truck cartoons with my two young sons. I never even thought we’d have another baby, let alone a daughter. Now that our daughter is here, there are quite a few things I want to teach her. I hope to give her a wonderful childhood and teach her so many things about life, love, and faith.

So here’s to you my little angel, I hope I can be the mother you deserve.

Dreams Are Possible

Whatever you decide to pursue in life, please never forget your dreams are possible, little girl. If you are passionate about something and you put in the work, believe you can achieve anything! You are going to do great things little one, and I’m so grateful to be along for the ride.

Never Settle

I want you to promise me you will always value yourself. Never think you don’t deserve the very best out of life. Don’t let people treat you poorly and never let society tell you you are anything less than wonderful. You’re amazing my dear daughter, please never forget that.

Forgive Often

Society will send you the message that people who let you down should be cut from your life, but I challenge you to forgive people – even when they don’t deserve it. Everyone makes mistakes and if you want any relationship to work (be it marriage, friendship, or family relationships), forgiveness is a requirement.

Love With Your Whole Heart

I have learned putting up a wall with others to avoid getting hurt just doesn’t work. It’s okay to be vulnerable and love with your whole heart. One day you will find that the man who deserves you will be glad to have every piece of your heart. Hopefully he will never take advantage of that fact.

Don’t Be Afraid To Fail

I was way too hard on myself when I made mistakes (still am). If I failed at something, I was way too quick to give up. I would almost punish myself for failures, but that’s not what I want for you, my sweet girl. I want you to learn from your failures and turn them into something good. I want you to realize no dream has ever come to pass without a little hardship first. Don’t give up. You must fight through failures to achieve your dreams.

Don’t Worry About Other People’s Opinions

There will always be someone telling you that you can’t do something. Society is good at making people feel like failures, but I beg you to let go of other people’s opinions to live the way you see fit. God’s opinion should matter to you, not other people’s opinions.

Be Grateful

Life is full of ups and downs. One thing that can always help you deal with that fact, is learning to be grateful in all situations. Learn to be grateful for all of your blessings and you will always see the good – in everything. Be the light in this dark world, sweet daughter of mine.

Love Yourself

Growing up, I had no self esteem. Zero. It was no one’s fault, I just thought I was never pretty enough, smart enough, or good enough. Now that I’m grown up, I’ve come to a place of being comfortable in my own skin. I can’t tell you how good it feels to finally be content with who I am. I pray you will also learn to love yourself for exactly who God made you.

You Were Made For A Purpose

God only made one you. He loves you more than you can ever imagine and your purpose, my dear, is a big one. Whether you cure cancer or raise children at home like I do, your purpose is a great one and I can’t wait to see what God has in store for you.

I Will Always Be There For You

One day soon, you will come home and tell me you met your new best friend. You will start to tell her all of your secrets, stories, and heartbreaks. You will no longer run to me with a problem, you will call her. But remember, my dear daughter, no matter what life throws your way, I’ll always be your first best friend. I will be there for you every step of the way my darling. I was the first one to laugh with you, learn with you, and listen to your stories. I know you will develop life-long friendships and I’m so happy to share your kind heart with the world.

I promise to support those friendships along the way, but I also promise to hold your hand when you’re scared, hug you when you’re sad, and be your biggest cheerleader all the days of my life. I love you.
