‘I opened my cooler and broke down in tears.’: Mom struggling to produce breast milk receives help from strangers on Facebook

“The past two weeks have been a blur. Suffering from postpartum anxiety, especially anxiety based around medical diagnoses, my world was rocked when I received my test results.

Scheduling doctor appointments with specialists, hearing words like ‘life expectancy’ and ‘quality of life,’ reading about all the possible hardships I might face in the future… absolutely destroyed me.

My milk supply plummeted from the stress. It felt like overnight, my body decided to stop producing milk. My little 4-month-old, Sawyer, began to fight latching and just like that, within days, my motherhood was absolutely and completely changed.

The more I fought to save my supply, the more it seemed like my body fought me and in turn, Sawyer fought my body.

So last night, I reached out to my local mom Facebook group asking for help. An angel of a mama reached out and asked if she could give me her freezer stash.

She didn’t need it because she’s a teacher and has been teaching from home. As I pulled into my driveway after picking it up, I opened my cooler and broke down in tears. ‘Enjoy Sawyer!’

Sometimes in this lonely journey of motherhood, we meet someone along the way that reminds us we’re not alone. We’re all in this together.

I’ll forever be grateful to this mama for helping me nourish my baby and helping me get through one of the hardest times of my life.”
